As we patiently wait to open our Zera House doors, the foundation work is being laid. I can not quite put into words what I see unfolding before my eyes. The mission here in McDowell County, West Virginia is so much bigger than Zera House. In my previous email I shared about the horrific conditions that most people exist in, referring to it as "the third world". There is a strong spirit of oppression, sickness and hopelessness. Lots of drugs, poverty and prostitution. God has laid it on my heart to work with the women in this area and encourage them to overcome some of their obstacles. So we decided to utilize the screen shop here at School for Life, an organization founded by Jack Fultz. I am forever grateful for the partnership we have with School for Life.
I am pleased to tell you, our screen shop is in full operation! We have eight girls who come into work, 2 days a week. They are thrilled to be here. With my permission, the girls have come up with their own business name, they have designed their own tee-shirts and have turned the screen shop into their own. They do the screen printing themselves and are filling orders. If you, or someone you know needs custom shirts done for a group, sports team or any special occasion, our girls are ready to go! I can not tell you how proud I am of these strong women! We are very excited to watch this enterprise grow and appreciate your support!
May I present; "The Boujee Boutique". Boujee ~ An abbreviation of the French "bourgeois." A critical term used to describe people, things and places that are definitively high-class. Something that is affected, inauthentic, gentrified, exclusive, and/or otherwise sheltered from the dirt and grime of the real world. How cool! Just today someone in passing asked us the meaning of "boujee", and one of my girls proudly said, "It's what we are aspiring to be!" Thats right, my beautiful girls are escaping the dirt and grime of the real world! They are escaping their current circumstances and they are rising above! They are learning their worth and beginning to understand the grace and love of our heavenly Father. This is so exciting to watch. They are earning an honest paycheck and working incredibly hard for it. I am honored to work next to such incredible women! We will have their merchandise up soon to purchase. So please be on the look out and show these dynamite women your support!
More ground work: I currently have a nine year old girl in my care. She has been with me for six weeks now. Her grandmother has asked me to help with her for the summer. So, I gladly created a space for her in my home. She has escaped horrific circumstances as she is a victim of abuse and lives in extreme poverty. Her mother is a drug addict and has had her walking the streets. This precious one has been rescued several times by people in the area who knew she was at risk of being sold. Zera House is in full swing. It's just happening a little differently than we expected. "We make our plans and the Lord directs our steps." This is hard work. There are days I feel like quitting. Days I just want my old life back, and do what I want to do. But then I hear the voice of a sweet little nine year old tell me, "I love you" or one of my girls say, "Please don't ever leave us, we need you." It's the Lords gentle way of reminding me why I'm here. Reminding me, it's not about me at all! It's about furthering His kingdom. It's about the Father's love for his children. He is loving each one so fiercely through me. What a job! What an honor! I know I'm exactly where I am supposed to be and that gives me the greatest comfort of all. Way more than the luxurious things this life has to offer.
AS you know, Zera House is supported by private donations only. We are set up for monthly giving through our website! It makes it easy for those interested in making Zera House part of their monthly or bi-monthly budget! We are in need of financial partnership on a regular basis. If this is something you are interested in, we would be happy to speak with you directly. Thank you for considering financial partnership!
PLEASE PRAY... Be praying for my girls who work so hard. Please pray for me, may I not rely on my own strength but the Lords. Please pray for this sweet child in my care. That the Lord will make clear what steps I need to take to protect this precious life. Please pray for the Zera House and it's future and the women who will one day be in our program.
"Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish"
